As Memorial Day approaches, let us not forget the sacrifices our veterans made to preserve our freedoms.
Or, as one poet said: “It is the Veteran, not the Press/It is the Veteran, not the Poet/who gives us Freedom of Speech/it is the Veteran, not the campus organizer/who gives us freedom to demonstrate/it is the Veteran who salutes the flag/who serves under the flag/who gives the protestor the freedom/to burn the flag.” -Mike Paolino
Once upon a time I lived with and loved one who served in active duty during the Vietnam War. The sacrifice he made is a lifelong commitment, once looked down on –now praised. A young man stood willing to give up his life with many others for our country and freedom. I have seen the price you paid and one day of parades and beer, with flag waving cheer doesn’t seem enough.
And yet all I can think to say is: Thank you for the sacrifices you made for the freedoms I enjoy and employ!
