Expanding the parameters that commonly exist during creation through CHANCE in this segment of my life’s interpretation.
“CHANCE is the opportunity to recognize and take an action to capture a creative moment!“
Because we as human beings have a multiplicity of things working at the same time consciously and subconsciously. I do believe in the action of releasing preconceived control allowing Subconscious/ Conscious/ Other/ Spirit/ Higher Self/ choice of names to work in the dance of: memory, experience, training into the foreground.
I believe my Visual Equations stem from practice, training and experience. The different arenas that I have trained in, all run subconsciously at this point in my life, I have practiced craft and technique with passion every day for over 50 years. The CHANCE is to recognize “What is, What was, What will Be-” so that opportunity is captured.
Examples: From Field Notes
1- Road Stop
Driving down the road I got a prompt to stop when I did i got the idea to photograph. Now was the spot a event that had energy from that event or incident? But in the photographing I used my talents, experience, training to choose, frame and crop the images that would be taken.
7/2/16 -My driving event was prompted by hearing or listening to inner self which also guided the creative endeavors that this event offered.
So I took the idea to the next level – I would photograph without seeing what I was photographing- using my phone this was easy because you cant see anything in the viewfinder.
I agreed with Sigmund Freud in “Notions of Parapraxes”
2- Camp Barn Removal
Physical labor of pulling and tearing the barn down, only leaves one to think, so with this the readings and research of chance begin to surface in my thoughts-
Here is another case for us to look at: The barn on our farm which we now call The Camp was built in the Revolutionary War. The property sits on a river at the edge of Kanse’s Falls that powered the mill that sawed the boards for the First American Navy Ships to be built in Whitehall NY, in that time this was a hustling and bustling community. Now that’s not the case. there are more cows than people. If anyones interested you can read the whole story in the book “Fort Ann: 300 Years of History” by Fort Ann Historical Society. SO the barn has seen many a person in many of different point of perspective and housed many animal including production, labor and storage of many story.
While removing the barn many occasion occurred for creative noticings which I documented through photography and oil pastel drawings..
When not noticing occurrences or creative opportunities because physical labor took full focus things like barn swallows bombing and swooping my person would stop the work process long enough to get my attention. Or Clouds popping up out of the clear blue – (Really- I mean it!) turning the Bright Sunlight to Dark Night. Over the next days many many events would present themselves to be captured into creative endeavors.
I have to say for anyone having to work with me they find my process extremely aggravating. Just imagine running equipment or pulling tearing prying and I say STOP i have to get my camera and don’t want anyone to disturb this accidentally. Or i can’t !!!! i have this idea – i just need to jot down – then I’ll be there to help.
Leading me to: think the WHO is at work if you pay attention!
The energy impressions left by so many people, animals, events, all presented themselves for me to capture on film. The series is tentatively called “Barn Finds”.
3– Drop Creations
We burn our paper so there’s always a discarded batch around; In this segment I worked with closed eyes. Reached in the recycled paper bin for pieces then dropped them onto background pages that were created with oil pastels. I didn’t intentionally choose color, placement or shape and glued where they landed.
Super fun and relaxing I would like to take the process further and larger when there’s more time!
