ABOUT THE SCULPTURE-
Sculpture No. 811_ Caduceus_(4/2020)
12” x 24”, repurposed object welded and finished in enamel paint and wax.
The Caduceus symbol alluded directly to the myth of Hermes, who saw two snakes fighting and touched them with his rod so that the two animals would stop fighting. Caduceus is often mistakenly used as a symbol of medicine because it is similar to the Rod of Asclepius.
This work is the outcome of the artist Michelle Vara’s thoughts and research of history and healing, proposing the growth of hope and empathy as a vehicle for unity and change in the world.
